Rumors have emerged that Carman Lee Yuek-Tung has broken up with boyfriend of two years, businessman Kwok Ying-Chuen and that, as a result, Lee is on the comeback trail. At the end of last year, Lee accepted a Mainland shampoo commercial. To start of this year, Lee is working in Shanghai on the Mainland television series YUEN LOI YAT GA YUN (lit. THEY ARE A FAMILY).
Contacted on the set about the rumors, Lee replied: "No that's not true. We are still very good. Please don't speculate so wildly. Actually, I know that some media wrote about these rumors recently but I didn't want to respond."
When asked about rumors that she is coming back to support Kwok, who took a heavy hit during the Asian economic crisis, Lee commented: "I'm not working to help him pay off debts. These past two years, I've just not made any movies or series. However, I've still been active. I've done shows. I've attended publicity events. I've even shot commercials in the Mainland. It's just that I've cut back on my work. I've never retired so you can't say that I'm making a comeback."
Lee says that she decided to work on the Mainland series because the script and the money were good. Moreover, she wanted to work with Mainland model Wu Bing.
Lee has signed with a new agent who will concentrate on getting her work in Taiwan and the Mainland. In related news, Lee's former agent, Johnnie To Kei-Fung, says that he will welcome Lee on any of his projects if he feels she is right for a character.
