After two modern series, HOME and AMAZING STORY, Carman Lee is once return to the familiar ancient looks through the portrayal of Yang Ba Mei in the series THE YANG'S HEROINE. During her trip to Taiwan to promote the series, Carman has sat down for an interview regarding THE YANG'S HEROINE.

REPORTER: In your first movie, THE WICKED CITY, you take on the role of a bad character, didn't you afraid it will leave a negative image to your audience?

CARMAN: I started out as a flight attendant, after that, I pursued modeling. That's why when director Tsui Hark asked me to star in his movie, to me its a great deal of surprise and honor. I didn't think much about whether I will portray a bad or good character.

R: Never been through any acting school, how did you "become the character" so quickly?

C: I was very nervous on my first days on the set, that's why I tried to follow the directors guidance, and then I tried to apply knowledge obtained from reading the script. And of course I cant do it without the help of my co-stars.

R: Do you like the name "Ancient-costume Beauty" that the press has given you?

C: I have to thank the characters of Xiao Long Nu (THE CONDOR HEROES 95) and Wong Yu Yeen (THE DEMI-GODS AND SEMI-DEVILS 96) for giving me great success. In a way, the ancient characters that I portrayed have played a very important role in my acting career. That's why the name Ancient-costume Beauty that you [the press] gave me is also a positive feedback, of course I love it very much.

R: Although THE YANG'S HEROINE ensembles such famous actors and actresses, but the character of Yang Ba Mei who you portrayed seems to have the most attention from the audience. Do you think that's because you have long been famous?

C: It really is not fair no matter if my answer is yes or no because the series also have stars that are much more famous than me such as Zheng Pei Pei, Ning Jing, and Theresa Lee... The reason why the character Yang Ba Mei attracts more attention is because shes the main character, that's why she appears more, have the best look and give me a lot of freedom to act out. This is also the favor that the producers, director have given me.

R: Can you describe the character Yang Ba Mei?

C: Yang Ba Mei is a girl who sometimes can appear as playful, willful, reckless, and who can also appear as feminine, gentle and lovely when her love interest is around. In the battlefield, Yang Ba Mei is a true Yangs heroine. I would say this character have some interesting qualities that worth watching.

R: In the series, Jiang Bin and Yang An treat each other as enemy because they are both in love with Yang Ba Mei. During the production, there are rumors that Darren Lin Ming Lun and Andrew Lian Kai didn't get along is also because of you. Can you clarify?

C: During the 3 months working on location, I've never heard about any conflicts between Darren Lin Ming Lun and Andrew Lian Kai. We all talked, gossiped, have lunch together and laughing all the time. But Andrew Lian Kai is a little quite, that's probably why some people think him and Darren Lin Ming Lun didn't get along.

R: This is the first time you and Darren Lin Ming Lun work together, but a lot of reporters have spotted you two acting really close, and you even help him with his acting. Did you two know each other?

C: In Singapore, Darren Lin Ming Lun is a TV host, not an actor, YANG'S HEROINE is his first acting debut, that's why he has seek for help from me from the first day. We are just trying to help each other out, that's all!

R: You have worked with several actors from China, Hong Kong who is your best co-star?

C: A lot of people think me and Hu Bing (co-starred in HOME) is a very compatible couple, but my best co-star is Keng Luk. We worked together in AMAZING STORY and TONG BAK FOO AND CHAU HEONG.

R: The breach-of-contract [for YANGS HEROINE] issues between you and Chinese Entertainment Limited (the company that produces the series) is now getting to court. Isn't there any other way to solve the problems?

C: I don't want to talk about the "messy" problems of the past, nobody wants to go to court, especially actors/actresses. But if there's no way to resolve the issues, then going to court is the best solution.

R: You've just come out to public about your romantic relationship with businessman Kwok Ying-Chuen, aren't you afraid that your love life will affect your career?

C: Even though both career and love are important, but if I must choose between the two, I will choose love because I don't have a lot of time left for the entertainment industry.
